There's a concept floating about in sporting circles that tries to explain - usually to those not directly involved - what drives people who regularly participate in endurance/adventure sports and why they're such glutons for pain and punishment. Ask any of these sports people 'Why?!' and they'll probably say, 'because it's fun!'... Really?! Well, you see, there are 3 types of fun; type 1, type 2 and type 3.
Type 1 Fun: That's everyday fun, fun while you're doing it. A laugh.
Type 2 Fun: This isn't necessarily fun while you're doing it, but it's fun afterwards when you're looking back on things. You might question your sanity during the event, but that feeling passes as soon as your done and 'it was fun!'
Type 3 Fun: This is never fun for you. Not even a few months later when you are telling the tale, you'll hate it. It's only ever fun for the people who weren't there!
