A review on our Queens from B.E.E.T member Brian... Just my update on the Queen and her introduction to the nucleus having carried out a split… First things first, like a lot of beekeepers, it's a hobby for me so has to be managed alongside work commitments and the weather. So on the Wednesday when I hoped to do the split, before the Queen arrived on the Friday, it rained! It actually kept on raining until Saturday! I googled keeping the Queen in her transit box and the majority of advice suggested as long as she was kept quiet and warm with a daily drop of sugar water, she could stay safely in the transit box for 3 or 4 days… So into the sock drawer she went (it was actually the pants drawer but my wife said socks seemed more media friendly 😂) I did the split, as you advised on the Saturday, and after 3 days removed the queen cells they had started. I introduced the queen, having taken off the plastic tab, and left them to it. I checked the nucleus yesterday and the Queen was happily laying eggs with her entourage around her. So even with a few hiccups along the way, the introduction worked well. Regards Brian |
