Strong colonies are growing fast, and that means swarm season is with us. One of the best ways to stay ahead of swarming is to make a split while your colonies are healthy and productive.
By splitting early in the season, you give the new colony plenty of time to build up, draw comb, raise brood, and store enough food to go into winter strong. Late-season splits often struggle to reach the population needed for successful overwintering.
Adding a quality mated Buckfast or Carniolan queen gives your split an immediate head start. Instead of waiting weeks for the colony to raise and mate its own queen, your new queen can begin laying almost straight away, helping the colony grow quickly and efficiently.
