View this email in your browser Happy World Bee Day! Today, May 20th, we're celebrating the tiny heroes of our planet - Bees, who keep ecosystems thriving and our food growing! Why today? On this day in 1734, beekeeping pioneer Anton Janša from Slovenia was baptized. A true bee legend, he once said: "Bees are a type of fly, hardworking, created by God to provide man with all needed honey and wax. Among all God's beings there are none so hard working and useful to man with so little attention needed for its keep as the bee". Janša hailed from Carniola, a stunning region in Slovenia where beekeeping isn't just a hobby, it's a cherished tradition passed down through generations. Fun fact: In 2017, Slovenia led the charge at the UN to officially mark May 20 as World Bee Day in his honour. And guess what? Our Open Mated Carniolan Queens come straight from this very region! Known for their gentle nature and strong productivity, these queens are perfect for beekeepers looking for a calm and efficient hive. With over 400 sold, we have a limited number of Queens remaining for dispatch/collection this Thursday, 22nd May. Our Open Mated Dark Carniolan Queens are known for their calm temperament, making them a favourite for beginners and hobbyist beekeepers. They are known for their honey production abilities, often yielding large crops and their docile behaviour makes them easier to handle and reduces the likelihood of stings. Looking ahead to the rest of the season? We have Queens available for June, July, August and September too! Our first 2 batches of Nucs are all settled in their new homes and thriving! We are very pleased to tell you we still have some National Nucs available for delivery in June - you can collect from us too! You will received 5 frames of bees - at least 3 frames of brood in various stages, 1+ frames of honey stores and the fifth frame will contain laying spaces alongside some stores. Complete with a marked laying Queen, these nucs are perfect for those just starting their beekeeping journey or looking to expand their apiary!
