The National Bee Unit reported the eradication of 72 nests across 56 locations in 2023, with a significant concentration in Kent. While Asian hornets do not pose a greater risk to human health compared to native hornets, they do present a threat to honey bees and other insect pollinators. Despite the absence of an established population in the UK, early trapping plays a pivotal role in the efforts to eliminate the species, as indicated by the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra). Government data reveals a total of 108 Asian hornet sightings since 2016, with 56 occurring in 2023. Eight sightings have been reported in the UK so far this year.
